JOB TITLE:                             Assistant Program Coordinator
EMPLOYER:                          Leisure Education for Exceptional People
REPORTS TO:                      Executive Director
WEEKLY HOURS:               5 – 15 Hours, (Flexible Schedule)

 

PURPOSE:   To implement various recreational, leisure, and competitive sporting programs for people with intellectual disabilities. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist with Developing and Implementing Program Activities
  1. Supervise, implement, and evaluate activities
  2. Collect program fees from participants and turn into Office Coordinator
  3. Support Assistant Director with the development of program activities by presenting new ideas and evaluating existing programs, classes, drop-ins, etc.
  4. Assist Special Olympics Coordinator with development of sports activities by presenting new ideas and evaluating existing sports programs
  5. Gather necessary supplies prior to activities, such as equipment, first aid kits, registration forms, money, etc.
  6. Supervise participants and volunteers during LEEP activities and events

II.  Responsible for public relations which would include verbal or written notices and information, answering questions, etc.

  1. Supervision of Volunteers and Participants
  1. Supervise participants to ensure safety and program rules are being followed
  2. Train, include and supervise volunteers during all activities
  3. Review participant Membership Forms and become aware of necessary information
  4. Attend and participate in all staff trainings and meetings

 

  1. Provide the opportunity for success for all participants
  1. Adapt activities to suit the participant’s needs
  2. Manage behaviors and encourage positive social interaction between all participants

 

  1. Special Olympics Coach
  1. Responsible for understanding the individual sports LEEP offers
  2. Attend specific sports trainings
  3. Coordinate team practices (including skill and team building drills),
  4. Attend all scheduled competitions

 

  1. Various Office Management
  1. Answer phone calls and check voicemail messages before programs
  2. Money management (collecting registration fees, membership dues, etc.)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  1. Background or experience working in recreation/leisure programs.
  2. Clean driving record.
  3. Must be available 2 nights a week from 4:00-9:00 pm, and 2 weekends a month
  4. A genuine interest and enthusiasm in working with people with varying ability levels.
  5. Must be highly motivated and energetic.
  6. Ability to work and communicate with participants, families, staff and other professionals.
  7. Ability to make adaptations that may be needed to involve participants with disabilities.
  8. Must be responsible and have great organizational skills.
