Position Summary:

SEASONAL: May 1-Mid-August

WEEKLY HOURS: Approx. 45 Hours a Wk (10 wks), 2 Wks Prep, 2-5 Recap

PURPOSE: To further the mission of LEEP through the planning and implementing of various recreational, educational and leisure programs. Create and implement program activities that are safe, fun and appropriate for ten to twelve teens with intellectual disabilities.


I. Develop and Implement Program Activities

  1. Develop, supervise, implement, and evaluate activities
    • Ensure lesson plans are prepared and implemented that meet LEEP outcomes and the abilities of the participants
    • Develop progressive program activities
    • Evaluate the success of the program and the development of the participants’ abilities and skills in various program activities
  2. Gather necessary supplies prior to activities, such as equipment, first aid kits, registration forms, money, etc.
  3. Supervise participants and volunteers during LEEP activities and events

II. Responsible for public relations which would include verbal or written notices and information, and answering questions about the program.

  1. Supervise participants to ensure safety and program rules are being followed
  2. Train, include and supervise volunteers during all activities
  3. Review participant Membership Forms and become aware of pertinent information
  4. Attend and participate in all staff trainings and meetings

IV. Provide the opportunity for success for all participants

  1. Adapt activities to suit the participant’s needs
  2. Manage behaviors and encourage positive social interaction between all participants

V. Various Office Management

  1. Answer phone calls and check voicemail messages before programs
  2. Budget management


  • Background or experience working in recreation/leisure programs.
  • Clean driving record, reliable transportation available to get to work
  • Training and experience in creating, developing and teaching programs to people with varying ability levels.
  • Must be highly motivated and energetic.


  • Ability to work and communicate with participants, families, staff and other professionals while providing necessary instruction.
  • Ability to make adaptations to programs to engage participants with disabilities.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situation requiring first aid. Must be able to assist participants in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
  • Must be responsible and have great organizational skills.

Some physical requirements of a program position could be endurance including standing, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate program equipment and program activities. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate activities/programs.
